Virginia Derr Everhart

Mrs. Virginia Catherine Derr Everhart, 90, of Frederick, died on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Homewood at Crumland Farms where she had been a resident for the past three years. She was the wife of the late George Maxwell Everhart, who died on September 18, 1985. Born in Monrovia on September 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John Carlton and Laura Elizabeth Cartee Derr. Mrs. Everhart was a graduate of Frederick High School and attended Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia. She accepted a position with Fredericktown Bank and Trust Company and served in many capacities over her forty-two years of service. For many years she worked in the main office on North Market Street and then at the Patrick Street Branch. She opened the Jefferson Street Office where she was the branch manager. As assistant vice president she opened the Amber Meadows Branch and was branch manager until her retirement. During her banking career she made many lifetime friends. She was a member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren and enjoyed volunteering and was active with the Trinity United Church of Christ in Thurmont. Mrs. Everhart was a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Homewood Retirement Center Auxiliary. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, John Walter Hipkins of Myersille, Barbara Derr Huesman of Williamsburg, Wanda Derr Stockman of Feagaville, Perry Lloyd Hipkins of Blacksburg, Sandra Derr Trout of Frederick, Charlotte Hipkins Miller of Hiawassee, Georgia, and Thomas Hipkins of Myersville. Mrs. Everhart was predeceased by her siblings, Hubert Derr, Paul Derr, and John Derr and Edna Hipkins. She was also predeceased by one nephew, Paul Richard Derr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Sean DeLawder, of Trinity United Church of Christ, Thurmont, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Homewood Foundation, P.O. Box 250, Williamsport, MD 21795.
