Mr. Chrisley (Chris) R. Tyree, 95, of Frederick, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Somerford Place. He was the husband of I. Blanche Bourne Tyree. They were married in 1981. Born March 14, 1917 in Delaware City, Delaware, he was the son of the late Sidney Lester and Adele Louise Wells Tyree. Mr. Tyree had a 37 year career with the federal government working in personnel and management. He retired in 1977 as Deputy Director of Personnel for Federal City College in Washington, DC. From 1972 until 1973, he was a Technical Service Officer for Personnel for TIAA/CREF and Civil Service Benefits, also for Federal City College. Prior to that, he was Personnel Management Specialist for D.C. Public School Systems. From 1968 to 1970, Mr. Tyree was Chief of the D.C. Retirement System, which encompassed five retirement systems, that of fire, police, teacher, judges and civil service employees. From 1956 to 1968 he was a senior examiner for the U.S. Civil Service Commission. However, it was his involvement in community service that proved to be his greatest accomplishments. He was a Past Master of the Masons; former chairman and vice president of the education committee of the U.S. Civil Service Credit Union; former president of Chapter 409 NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees); past chairman of the Frederick County Human Relations Commission; board member of the Federated Charities and the Weinberg Center; and served on the Board of Governors of Crestwood Village, where he and his wife resided. He also spent nine years as an appeal judge for the Frederick County Gaming Board. In addition, he was a member of the United Democrats and completed service as treasurer of the organization. Mr. Tyree received recognition and citations from the following organizations: Frederick County Human Relations Commission in appreciation of service as president from 1987-88; Certificate of Merit in 1988 from the Crestwood Village Home Owner's Association for his acceptance of the responsibility of conducting affairs and selflessly providing service to the Crestwood community; from Chapter 409 NARFE, 1989-90 for meritorious service as Past President; special recognition from the Alzheimer's Association for his contributions to Memory Walks, 1991-92, and for his service to the Alzheimer's board; and in 1992 he received an award of gratitude from the Crestwood Village management group for his devoted years spent with the Crestwood Village Home Owner's Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sydney Overbey; a granddaughter, Chellie Overbey, both of Montclair, N.J.; a grandson, Chad Overbey of California; two great-grandchildren, Caterina and Michael Standi, and a great-great-granddaughter, Lyric Standi, all of Montclair, N.J. Mr. Tyree also leaves behind numerous friends. A memorial service for Mr. Tyree will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Father Lawrence K. Frazier of St. Joseph's on Carrollton Manor.
