Mrs. Jean Alice Tuck Zimmerman, 96, of New Market, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Glade Valley Center where she had resided for the past three years. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Zimmerman, Sr., who predeceased her on August 3, 1992. Jean was born August 5, 1915 to the late Wilbur and Bessie Tuck of Point of Rocks. She was educated in the Frederick County Public schools and, after graduation, attended the Visitation Academy. Jean and Paul were married on June 6, 1936 and they moved to New Market, where she resided until her move to Glade Valley Center. In the early years of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Jean was an active volunteer. Her love of flowers and gardening led her to help found the New Market Garden Club, where she remained an active member up until a few years ago. Jean's other great love was antiques. She owned an antique business in New Market until she realized she couldn't bear to part with any of the items she had purchased for her shop. Jean had a keen eye for antiques and persisted until she got the item she wanted. Besides gardening and antiques, Jean was devoted to her family. Every holiday was traditionally celebrated with big family gatherings. She is survived by a son, Paul A. Zimmerman, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of New Market; a daughter, Dorothy J. Burhans and husband, Winslow, of New Market; three grandchildren, Mayor Winslow F. Burhans, III and wife, Kate, of New Market; Andrew C. Zimmerman and partner, Elaine, of Frederick; and Thomas C. Zimmerman and wife, Diane, of Frederick. Jean also is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Hannah and Kai Burhans; Kevin, Christine and Nick Lowery; and Nicholas and Max Krepps. In addition, she is survived by two nieces, Mary Ann Hobbs and Johanna Rucker; and two nephews, Robert Tuck, Jr. and Charles Zimmerman. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her brother, Robert G. Tuck, Sr. Her family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the New Market United Methodist Church, 5501 Old New Market Road, in New Market. Officiating will be the Rev. Jennifer Smith.
