Mrs. Nancy E. Rykhus, 83, of Frederick, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Meisner, Jr. and Douglas J. Rykhus. Born and raised in Pleasantville, New York, Nancy was the daughter of the late Charles and A. Bertha (Cobb) Ewels. Nancy attended Katherine Gibbs Business School. She was employed at Readers Digest and NBC Radio/TV in New York City. After raising her children, Nancy returned to work as a secretary for St. James Episcopal Church in Potomac, Maryland. She retired in 2000, and moved to Frederick where she continued to enjoy her love of gardening, music and poetry. Nancy cherished being a mother and grandmother above all else. She touched many hearts throughout her life and will be greatly missed. Nancy is survived by her loving children, Susan Fleming of Denver, CO, Joseph C. Meisner and wife Lisa of Frederick, Mary M. Rill and husband James of Darnestown, Carol E. Kelly and husband Kevin of Frederick, David E. Meisner of Bethesda, Jennifer A. Meisner of Frederick, Annette M. Marcil and husband David of Mt. Holly, NJ, Rosemary Rykhus of Arlington and Kathie H. Trach and husband Stefan of Rockville, 10 grandchildren, Katie, Jake, Larisa, Martha, Mack, Sara, Douglas, Joey, Claire and Jack, sister-in-laws, Marion Graham and Barbara F. Ewels, numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her step-son, Douglas J. Rykhus, Jr., brothers, Charles "Jack" Ewels and Robert Ewels and wife Dorothy, and in-laws, Joe and Dolly Meisner. Arrangements are being made by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St, Frederick. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 16, 2012, At All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick. Rev. Thomas A. Momberg and Rev. Jessica Knowles will officiate. Interment will be private in Kensico Gardens in New York at a later date. Flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County Maryland.
