Anna Mary Kefauver Roderick, aged 97, died on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick. She was the wife of Rev. Raymond L. Roderick who predeceased her in 2008, after 70 years of marriage. Anna Mary was born in Middletown on November 14, 1914 to Lucretia Michael Kefauver and Dr. Noah E. Kefauver, both of Middletown. She attended elementary school and two years of high school in Middletown, then graduated from National Park Seminary at Forest Glen, Maryland in 1929. After attending Hood College for one year, she continued her education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, graduating in 1936. She then taught home economics at Frederick High School from 1936 to 1938. On July 30, 1938, Anna Mary married Raymond Roderick from Urbana who was called to the ministry, a profession which his wife enthusiastically shared. During the following years, Mrs. Roderick and her family lived in various communities in Maryland and Washington, D.C. as directed by the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. Her retirement years were spent with her husband on her beloved family farm in Middletown, then at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, Pa. and lastly in 2000 as one of the first residents of Homewood at Crumland Farms. Surviving Anna Mary are her daughters Marianne C. Roderick of Wilmette, Illinois and Nancy Roderick Newton of Middletown, two grandchildren, Lera Newton Straits of Middletown and Roderick Carroll Newton of Mercersburg, Pa. and four great grandchildren. Anna Mary Roderick's life will be celebrated in the chapel at Homewood on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Homewood Benevolent Fund, payable to Homewood Foundation, P. O. Box 250, Williamsport, MD 21795.
