Mr. Bernard Edward Dennis, 87, of Adamstown, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy Cheeks Dennis. Born in Frederick on November 1, 1924, he was a son of the late Joseph Thomas and Ida Rebecca Davis Dennis. Mr. Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II and was active in many battles and had received many decorations and citations. For most of his life he worked in the auto body repair business and was associated with several local shops. He also over the years repaired many horse carriages for Rose Hill and others. He enjoyed woodworking and had made many fine items. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Bernard E. Dennis II and fiancee, Tina Gibson, of Frederick, and his granddaughter, Rachel E. Dennis, of Frederick, two sisters, Gladys I. Obenderfer and Betty Easton, both of Frederick, also surviving are many cousins and many special friends. He will also be remembered by his former daughter-in-law, Katherine Dennis, of Frederick. He was preceded in death by Sanders Elbert Cheeks, who was like a son. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June 18, 2012, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. David Hughes, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
