Mr. David Raymond Shafer, 68, of New Market, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of Sandra Jenkins Shafer. Born in Frederick on May 1, 1944, he was a son of the late Harry Raymond and Hazel Zimmerman Shafer. Mr. Shafer proudly served his country in the United states navy during Vietnam War. He worked as a customer engineer for Loch Heed martin and IBM. He was a life member of the Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, Adamstown and also a member of the Retread Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed working in his garden, building many things and being outdoors. Surviving in addition to his wife is two sons, Daniel E. Shafer and wife Elizabeth, of New Market and Joseph D. Shafer, of Frederick, two brothers, John T. Shafer and wife Tamara, of Keedysville, and James M. Shafer, of Gaithersburg, two sisters, Nellie Easterday and husband Donald, of Feagaville and Charlotte Bowers and husband Eddie, of Frederick, one grandson, Jacob Ray, and several nieces and nephews. he will also be missed by his pet dog, Maggie Mae and her sister, Makeda. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Pastor Charlene Barnes, of the Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 5132 Doubs Road, Adamstown, MD 21710.
