John Peter Wilbur

August 21, 1935 — June 28, 2012

John Peter Wilbur, 76, of Frederick, died Wednesday, June 28, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Virginia "Jeanie" Bowers Wilbur since July 23, 1960. Born in Washington, D.C. on August 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Herbert and Margaret Noel Wilbur. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1953 and the University of Maryland in 1957. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and fulfilled his military obligations after college. Farming has been his life-long career. He also had experience selling real estate and working for Sears. John enjoyed gardening, flute lessons, mentoring youth, prison ministry, picking up baked goods for the church food bank, visiting shut-ins, writing poems and stories, helping with the soup kitchen, "helping" Santa and caring about people. He has been a life long member of Carroll Manor Grange and was the chair for Carroll Manor Grange's Steamshow in the 1970's and was a former 4H leader. He served on the board of the Maryland Pork Producers and was a charter member of the Frederick County Farm Museum and was THE member of the Farmers for Brahms Society. He was additionally appointed to serve on the Trial Court Judicial Nominating Commission, District Ten for Frederick County by Governor Glendening in 1995. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Diane Younkins and husband John, Susan Jensen and husband Chris, Noel Williams and husband Rob, four grandchildren: Adam Jensen, Candace Upton, Laura Weik and Lindsey Younkins, two great-grandchildren: Alex Upton and Eliska Weik, 2 brothers: Herbert S. Wilbur, Jr. and Charles S. Wilbur. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1 at 4:00 PM at Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, formerly St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Adamstown. Pastor Charlene Barnes will officiate and Pastor Marina Flores will give the eulogy. Memorial gifts may be made to The Community of St. Dysmas, P.O.
