Arthur Hargett Cook

Mr. Arthur Hargett Cook, 84, of Frederick, died on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his home on Ballenger Creek Pike. He was the husband of the late Nellie Elizabeth Pate Cook, who died on March 4, 2009. Born in Frederick on December 26, 1927, he was a son of the late John William Edward and Nora Ellen Hargett Cook. For many years Mr. Cook farmed in the Ballnger Creek area. He also worked for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Mullinix Grain and Fertilizer Company and the Farmers CO-OP. He was a member of the Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, (formerly St. Matthew's). For well over 40 years he was a member and leader of the Frederick County 4-H Program, and the Maryland State 4-H All Stars. Surviving are his three children, Virginia Ellen Taylor and husband Lloyd, of Keymar, Gordon Chris Cook and wife Julie Ann, of Rohrersville, and Glen Terry Cook, Sr., and wife Donna, of Frederick, six grandchildren, Jennifer M. Toms and husband Michael, Jessica E. Cook, Glen Terry Cook, Jr., and wife Patty, Rachel Christina Sanbower and husband Ron, John D. Taylor and wife Shannon, and Michael B. Taylor, several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his former daughter-in-law, Hedy Darlene Cook. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Arthur Cook, two brothers, J. Melvin Cook and Richard Edward Cook. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, July 26, 2012, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Charlene Barnes, of Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Renovations Church Fund, 5132 Doubs Road, Adamstown, MD 21710.
