John D. Rohrer, 66 of Braddock Heights, MD died peacefully at his home on July 23rd, 2012. Born May 17 1946 in Hagerstown, MD, son of May E. Shafer Rohrer and John F. Rohrer. Surviving relatives include his sister, Marion Shafer of Boonsboro, MD and niece Brenda Saucer of Hagerstown, MD. John was predeceased by numerous relatives on his mother's side of the family and most recently, his Brother-in-Law Charles Shafer, husband of Marion Shafer and father of Brenda Saucer. John is also the Birth Father of Emily Allan Thompson. John retired from IBM Gaithersburg, MD and Silicon Valley, California, after 30 years of service as a System Analyst. He then worked his way up to the Director Level of a Home-based Business, SHAKLEE, "CREATING HEALTHIER LIVES". John's hobbies included traveling throughout the United States as well as internationally, riding his Harley Davidson on benefit runs as well as with many of his friends, golfing, skiing, vegetable gardening, flower gardening and most recently designing and working in his beautiful water garden with peaceful, flowing, waterfalls and many plants, frogs, and fish to enjoy. Each Spring, John's favorite activity was hunting Morrell Mushrooms. He loved the hikes and walks and joy of finding the mushrooms and sharing them with friends and family. John leaves behind his very special and close friends, Lonnie and Sherry Purkey, Ted and Laura Beall, Phil and Tricia Bohn, Trudy Bonham, John Lippiatt, Jim O'Brien and Ron Garvis. Additionally, John leaves behind a considerable amount of friends throughout the USA as well as Frederick, MD. John truly loved and cared dearly about each and every person he met and he will be remembered and missed by all who knew him and who he touched their lives and hearts. Friends will be received on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 4 to 7 PM at the Frederick Elks, #684, 289 Willowdale Drive, Frederick, MD 21702 where services are to begin at 7 PM. Mr. Joseph Cariola, Jr., minister, will officiate. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kate Koogler Canine Cancer Fund at 12742 Creagerstown Road, Thurmont, MD, 21788, or to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702. Arrangements conducted by the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
