Mr. Robert Manning Staley, Jr., 93, of Frederick, resided with his son and daughter-in-law for the last 22 years, and died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the Northampton Manor Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Robin Ann Ridenbaugh Staley, who died January 7, 1990. They were married on March 30, 1941. Mr. Staley was born on July 9, 1919, in the family home on Dill Avenue, Frederick, where he lived until going to live with his family in 1990. He was a son of the late Robert Manning, Sr., and Hilda Devilbiss Staley. Mr. Staley was a graduate of Frederick High School, and proudly served his country during WW II in the United States Marines. After receiving an honorable discharge from the military he started working for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company until his retirement in 1981 after 38 years of service. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catlholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers, and the Francis Scott Key American Legion, Post # 11. He was an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life. He enjoyed flower gardening and also enjoyed all sporting events, especially those played by his grandson, Robert. Surviving are his children, son, Robert M. Staley III and wife Georgia, of Frederick, his daughter, Diane Staley Arnold, of Wadsworth, Ohio, one brother, William C. Staley, of Frederick, three grandchildren, Robert M. Staley IV and his fiancee Rebecca Reisinger, of Frederick, Sandra Arnold Lambert and husband Bill and Jason Arnold and wife Julie, also surviving are several great grandchildren nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Staley James. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 16, 2012, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Lawrence Frazier, will officiate.
