Mr. Gary Lee Oland Mr. Gary Lee Oland, 65 of Las Vegas, Nevada, and formerly of Walkersville, Maryland, went to heaven on Friday, August 31, 2012, at Mountain View Hospital, Las Vegas. He was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Ann Long Oland, his wife of almost 40 years and cat daddy to Midnite, Princess, and his Savannah baby, Taj. Born April 4, 1947, in Frederick, he was the oldest of two sons of Frederick Osborne Oland and Belva Catherine Carpenter Oland. He was an avid sportsman, loving bowling, drag racing, golfing, softball, fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. He was also the Maryland State Archery champion. He was a member of Tuscarora Gun Club where he won many events and also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 684, Frederick. Prior to his official retirement, he worked numerous places including Bechtel and Xerox. After retirement, he was honored to work for Transit where he enjoyed helping others. Surviving besides his wife, is his mother, Belva Oland and one brother, Terry Oland and wife Sharon of Urbana; niece Emily Squires and husband Skip and great-nephews Ryan and Connor of Ellicott City; niece Cryssye Long and Davey and great-nephew Easton and great-niece Kaeley; nephew Jason Long and wife Edna and great-nephew Jared; and many other relatives and friends. He was quite the social butterfly on vacation where he made many new friends who looked for him every day at the pool. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred to whom he is hugging in heaven, as well as everyone else he loved and who loved him and awaiting is arrival. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Friday, September 7, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701. Services will be held at 11 am in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Serving as pall bearers will be Joe and Merhle Long, John and Larry Carpenter, Jim Anderson, Alan Covell, Chuck Liller, and Al Smith.
