Nevin Snader Baker of Frederick, Maryland passed away at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Thursday September 13, 2012 at the age of 90. He was born on the family farm in Unionville, Maryland on August 16, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Snader Baker and Helen A. Baker. He is survived by his four children: Sandra L. Baker of Tucson, AZ; Anne B. Klein (Richard) of Edmonds, WA; Carol M. Baker (John Olinski) of New Market, MD; and James R. Baker (Paula) of Frederick, MD. Four grandsons: Jared W. Klein, MD (Laura) of Seattle, WA; John K. Klein (Kelli) of Bothell, WA; Christopher L. Baker (Megan) of Frederick, MD; and Ryan L. Baker, PharmD (Lauren) of Frederick, MD. One great grandson: Bennett Nevin Baker (Ryan and Lauren) of Frederick, MD.; his brother, R. Holmes Baker (Emajane) of Frederick, MD. Other friends he leaves behind include: Colette Baker, mother of Christopher and Ryan of Frederick, MD; and his former wife and close friend, Albertine H. Baker of Frederick, MD. He was preceded in death by his lifelong friend and college roommate, Warren C. Smith (Mary) of Middletown, MD. He graduated from Liberty High School and the University of Maryland. After graduating from college, he served three years with the United States Marine Corps during World War II, including 22 months of duty in the South and Central Pacific. He began his career at Citizens National Bank in 1946 and continued with the bank when they merged with Farmers & Mechanics Bank in 1953. He resigned as Senior Vice President in 1977 to join Frederick County National Bank. He served as President and Director of FCNB until 1987. He then continued as Chairman of the Board until 1995. He retired from FCNB Board of Directors in 1996 with Chairman Emeritus status. He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick, MD. He served as President of the Blue Ridge Conference, Bank Administration Institute and as Chairman of Group II, Maryland Bankers Association from 1961-1962. Nevin was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Alpha Zeta Honor society, the Terrapin club and a life member of the University of Maryland Alumni Association. He was past President of the Francis Scott Key Lions Club and served as an Officer and Director of the Frederick County YMCA and Frederick Jaycees. He was on the Board of Trustees for Frederick Memorial Hospital for 25 years and served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Frederick County Professional Building Corp. for 20 years. Lifetime memberships included: Francis Scott Key American Legion Post #11; VFW, John R. Webb Post 3285 Frederick; Marine Corps League Shangri-La Detachment; BPO Elks Lodge #684. Other memberships included: Moose Lodge #371; Catoctin Club; VFW Country Club; and other community and charitable organizations. During his retirement years, Nevin maintained a part time residence in Sun City West, AZ. While there, he held memberships with a variety of organizations and associations. Nevin's interests included a constant daily review of the stock market and financial news; playing and watching golf, the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, and the Maryland Terrapins. He and his family have enjoyed their seats on the 50 yard line of Byrd Stadium since its inception. He expressed many fond memories of his friends while living at his home in Fairfield Condominiums in Frederick. He always enjoyed celebrating special occasions with his family and friends at Dutch's Daughter restaurant. He loved his country, his family and friends, and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Frederick Memorial Hospital, Dr. Bush and the recently opened hospice unit at FMH. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, on Sunday, September 16, 2012, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.
