Jonathan Wayne Allgaier
October 24, 1969 — September 18, 2012
Jonathan Wayne Allgaier passed away at his home in Urbana, surrounded by his family, on September 18, 2012, after a courageous 9-month struggle with colon cancer. He was 42 years old. Jonathan was the oldest son of Dr. Wayne and Vicki Allgaier, born on October 24, 1969, in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tina, and 4 children: Tyler, Spencer, Garrett, and Kristyn. Also one sister Becky Allgaier Higgins and her husband David of Peoria, AZ, and four brothers and their wives: David and Alyssa Allgaier of Shanghai, China; Steven and Elinn Allgaier of Brunswick; Kevin and Lauren Allgaier of Mapleton, UT; Andrew and Geralyn Allgaier of Lindon, UT; and 21 nieces and nephews. Jonathan graduated from Brunswick High School class of 1987. He received his bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University in 1994, interrupting those studies to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montreal, Canada. He went on to earn a double master's degree in architecture and structural engineering at North Carolina State University. During his graduate education he was employed by the architectural NBBJ and also by Stewart Engineering. When he completed his schooling he became employed by Mendenhall-Smith in Las Vegas, NV. This firm was expanding and opened a branch office in Frederick, MD, with Jonathan as the principal agent at that office. After 5 years, Jonathan established his own firms, Allgaier Structural Engineering and Fusion Architecture Planning Design. His projects have included the new Hood College gymnasium (as structural engineer), the Frederick County Board of Education building (structural engineer), the Brunswick Fire Hall (architect and S.E.), and the Brunswick Crossing Community Center (architect and S.E.). He was also a structural engineer for the 2010 Winter Olympics, as well as for at least ten Super Bowls. Jonathan was very active in his Church, and especially enjoyed his work with the youth, teaching early morning "seminary" classes to high school students every day before they went to school, in the scouting program, and in many other capacities. He also enjoyed music, participating in the BHS marching, jazz, and concert bands; the BYU marching band; and choir director at church. He enjoyed athletics, and even while very ill, made a special effort to attend his children's soccer and basketball games. Anyone who rooted for Chelsea Football Club became an immediate friend. Funeral services are being handled by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home in Frederick. A viewing will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 199 North Place in Frederick, on Friday evening, Sept. 21 from 6 - 8 pm.
