Janet C. Crocker

Mrs. Janet C. Crocker, age 79 of Frederick, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 22, 2012 after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife for 57 years to Russell A. Crocker. Born on February 10, 1933 she was the daughter of the late F. Walker Chapman and Rebecca Mantz Chapman of Rhode Island Avenue, Washington D.C. The family moved to Frederick in 1949 to a home on Shookstown Road just outside of Frederick City. Mrs. Crocker had most of her schooling in Washington D.C. until moving to Frederick with her family. She was a graduate of Frederick High School class of 1951. She was involved with the Literacy Council of Frederick volunteering to teach English and reading skills to people in the county. She learned to speak French and was a past President of Alliance Francaise de Frederick which is the Frederick County branch of the organization that promotes French language and culture world wide. She was a prominent member of the AF de Frederick since it opened up in Frederick in the 1970's. Mrs. Crocker was a charitable giver, donating to many causes including the Mount Vernon Fund, Fund For Animals, Southwest Indian Fund and others that are to numerous to mention. Being an avid gardener with a particular fondness for miniature daffodils a specialty of her late Aunt Roberta C. Watrous and the Washington D.C. Daffodil Society. She enjoyed travel and was a lover of good food and time shared in the company of family and friends. Mrs. Crocker was the Vice President of Crocker and Little Properties, Inc. of Frederick, a business owned by her husband Russell and the late Ralph Little Jr. Notre Alliance est en deuil. Mrs. Crocker was the devoted mother of: Mark Crocker and wife Jocelyn of Sabillasville, David Crocker and wife Kim of Rohrersville, Carol Bussard and husband Barry of Middletown, Laura C. Shipley and fiancée James Mackenzie of Frederick and Michael Crocker and wife Jeannie of Walkersville; grandmother of: (the late) Mark Jr., Rebecca, Allen, Stacey, Jesse, Russell, D. Cole, Nicholas, Clay, Bret, Michael Scott, and Ciarra; great-grandmother of: Ethan, Elizabeth, Thomas, Tyler, Madilyn, Isabel, Andrew, R. Chance, Airanna, and Kynlee. She is additionally survived by her brothers, Griffin Chapman of Arlington, VA, Robert Chapman and wife Odile of Rockville and her sister-in-law Doris Reeder of Frederick, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and grandson, she is predeceased by her sister Sally Chapman. Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 11 AM. Rev. Timothy S. May, Sr. will officiate. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. A reception will be held at Dutch's Daughter Restaurant in Frederick after the graveside service. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Crocker's name to the Washington D.C. Daffodil Society or the Alliance Francaise de Frederick.
