Mr. Albert Leroy Bowens, 55, of Frederick, died on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born December 17, 1956, in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late James Oliver Thompson and Peggy Christine Bowens- Diggs of Frederick, Maryland. Albert's immediate family consists of two sisters, Tyeicka Thompson and partner Horace from Frederick, Wendy Thompson of Frederick, several brothers, Victor Diggs and fiancée Lillie from Frederick, Harvey Diggs and partner Rochelle from Frederick, Charles Bowens from Florida, and step-father Charles H. Diggs. Albert was preceded in death by two sisters, Roxanne Dorsey and Vicki Diggs. Albert resided with MedSource Community Services, Inc. for 25 years. He attended Way Station's day habilitation program in Frederick, Maryland. Albert previously participated in The Arc of Washington County Chewsville and Crossroads Activity Centers, both in Hagerstown, Maryland, and the United Cerebral Palsy medical day program in Frederick. Albert was a former resident of Rosewood Center in Owings Mills, Maryland and the Potomac Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. Albert will be especially missed by his caregiver of 22 years, Michael Frye, and long-time housemates, Eugene Chapman, and James Ellison. Albert will also be remembered by staff and countless friends at the Way Station, as well as MedSource Community Services and Service Coordination, Inc. Albert loved music, dancing, spending time outdoors, and being in comfortable surroundings with friends and family. Albert, along with his housemates and staff, were often recognized in the community as they frequented local events such as concerts, carnivals, and dances. Friends will visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. on October 12, 2012 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland, with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. Officiating will be Ken Lebo. Interment will be private.
