Fern Cristene Godbee

December 8, 1928 — October 15, 2012

Mrs. Fern Cristene Godbee, age 83, longtime resident of Doubs, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012. She was the wife for 27 years of Warren F. Godbee, who was retired from the United States Marine Corps. She was the sixth child of the late Charles and Edna Whipp of Doubs. Mrs. Godbee worked for the FBI and later worked for Olin Water Company. After starting her family she concentrated on being a good mother and homemaker. She was a life long member of the Doubs United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, cross stitching and ceramics. She is survived by her son, Richard W. Godbee and wife Anna of Wilmington, NC, her grandson Richard W. Godbee, Jr., her brother Oliver H. Whipp and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings Charles Whipp, Thelma Harper, Wilbur Whipp, and E. Martha Burkhardt. The family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors who were so helpful and caring. Friends will be received on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 1 to 2 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will begin at 2 PM. Rev. Paul Papp will officiate. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Godbee's name to her church, Doubs United Methodist Church, 5131 Doubs Road, Adamstown, MD 21710.
