Mr. Daniel Thomas "Tom" Nee, (88) passed into eternal rest Monday, October 15, 2012, in his home in Crestwood Village, Frederick. He was born in Mt. Savage, MD on May 28, 1924, to the late Daniel Francis Nee and Ethel Mae (Johnson) Nee. He married his beloved wife, Marie Catherine Stangle of Vincennes, Indiana, in 1948. They were happily married for 51 years. Marie preceded him in death December 13, 2000. His memory will be cherished by his children, Susanne M. Basford and husband, George, of Frederick, Stephen T. Nee of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rebecca E. Auldridge and husband, Mark of Keedysville, and James A. Nee of Hagerstown, as well as by his grandchildren, Tech Sergeant Jeremy Nee (Maria), Elizabeth Nee, Joseph Basford (Erin), Laura Stein (Nico), James Auldridge (Shari), Isaac Auldridge (Angela), Hilary Lutz (Sean), and Emily Douglas (Ira). He will be missed by his beloved great grandchildren Katherine and Sarah Nee, Abraham and Collin Basford, Gabriel, Christian, Caleb, Kaylee, and Jillian Auldridge, Shannon, Ethan, Nicholas and Nathan Lutz, and Peyton and Beckett Douglas. He is survived by his sister, Ethel Frances Wiles of Frederick, niece, Frances Anne Myers, nephews, David and Michael Wiles, and sister-in-law, Virginia Stangle, along with several nieces and nephews in the Stangle family. Devoted friends include Kathy Walters, mother of Jeremy and Elizabeth Nee, and husband Bill of Verona, VA, and Jill Thompson, companion of James Nee. Mr. Nee will also be remembered by his friends in Crestwood Village. He also enjoyed his lifelong friendship with Jack and Mary Ann Kennedy. Mr. Nee was a parishioner of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus Council #1622. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He attended St. John Catholic Grammar School, Frederick High School, and Peter's School of Horology in Washington, DC. He was a certified master watchmaker with the American Watchmaker's Institute. Mr. Nee retired from North American Philips-Airpax after 28 years. He previously worked at Fort Detrick, Sam Tyler's Jewelry Store, and Fairchild Aircraft Company, Hagerstown. He conducted his own watch repair business for 36 years. He always enjoyed family gatherings, and liked to ballroom dance at Pen Mar Park and Brunswick senior dances. He took great satisfaction in getting as many partners on the floor as possible, including those who had not danced in years. He was a member of the Frederick Golden Tones senior chorus, and liked to travel to nursing homes to sing and visit with the residents. Mr. Nee was a member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. He spent many hours shooting pool and playing badminton and ping pong with his friends at the clubhouse in Crestwood Village, and he bowled on duckpin leagues in his earlier years. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 19, 2012, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second Street, Frederick. Father Keith Boisvert will be the celebrant. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church Building Fund, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
