Mr. Howard Stanley "Stan" Davis III, 67, of Frederick, died on Monday, October 29, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of Frances E. "Fran" Hartman Nelson Davis. Born in Frederick on October 22, 1945, Stan was the son of the late Howard Stanley, Jr., and Maryellen Fogler Davis. Stan proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force. He was retired from the CSX Railroad, where he worked as a locomotive engineer. He was a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11. He recently was inducted into the Sons of the American Revolution. (SAR) where he was adwarded a war service medal for his service to the United States in Vietnam. He served the City of Frederick as a member of the Ethics Commision. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter, Elizabeth Goodman, of York, PA, and his grandson, Stephen B. Goodman, step children and their families, Kate Wright and husband Marty, their children, Sydney and Nathaniel, Erin Macfarlane and husband Brian, their children, Dylan and Sadie, all of Goodyear, Arz., and Drew Piraino and his wife Valerie, of Brooklyn, NY, one sister, Kay Davis Whelan and husband Tom, of Crofton, MD, and three nieces and their families, Katy Callum and husband Anthony, and their children, Mary, Thomas and William, Maggy Whelan and Maureen "Mo" Opoku and husband Fred. He enjoyed the company of his family members and many good friends and was supported by them with his battle with cancer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 9, 2012, at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick. The Rev. Keith W. Bosivert, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel, will be the celebrant. Private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the building fund of Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
