Former Alaskan (Fairbanks and Delta Junction) died of complications from cancer on November 12, 2012, at the age of 80, in Frederick Memorial Hospital in Maryland, with her son Fred and daughter-in-law Melanie at her side. She has now joined her beloved husband, Fred, in heaven, with her Lord and Savior. Delores was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Pennsylvania, settled in Rockville, Maryland once married, then to Alaska in 1977. After living in Alaska for 33 years she moved to a retirement community in Frederick, Maryland. Delores was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 38, for over 50 years. She was a professional seamstress in her younger years. She enjoyed many different hobbies later in life including crafts, bowling, and genealogy. Among her many accomplishments was learning to fly. She missed living in Alaska and enjoyed telling her many stories of her 33 years of life there. She and Fred loved traveling the back roads of Alaska and talking to everyone they met. They loved the Northern Lights. Delores was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frederick Q. Byers, and her brother Donald Gray. She is survived by brothers Robert Gray, John Gray and his wife Sandy, of Pennsylvania, her sister Evelyn Couchenour of Colorado, her son Frederick R. Byers and wife Melanie of Maryland, her daughter Linda G. Stephenson and husband David of Fairbanks, Alaska, grandchildren Lisa and David Byers, Eric and Craig Stephenson, great-grandson Xander Stephenson, and many nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many. Nothing was more important to her than her family. Memorial Service for Delores will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, 1:30pm at Edenton Retirement Community Chapel, 5800 Genesis Lane, Frederick, MD. Dr. Kent Ramler, Senior Pastor of People's Baptist Church, of Frederick, Maryland, will be officiating.
