Irene G. Leatherman

Mrs. Irene G. Leatherman, age 87 of Frederick passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick. She was the loving wife for 66 years of Ralph C. Leatherman, currently of Montivue. Born on May 16, 1925 in Feagaville, she was the daughter of the late Earl Fenton and Anna Laura Kessler Hargett, Sr. Mrs. Leatherman was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick. She was first employed at the Frances Scott Key Hotel as a waitress, later worked at Routzahn's Department Store and finally retiring from National Geographic in Gaithersburg. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting. Mrs. Leatherman is survived by her sister, Elizabeth H. Hooper of Somerford and step brother Earl F. Hargett, Jr. and wife Belva of Frederick and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary K. Main and step mother Loraine Hargett. Friends will be received on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 1-2 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will begin in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home at 2 PM. Rev. Harry C. Cole will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Contributions may be made in her name to Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701.
