Joseph Aloysius Keefner, 83, of Middletown, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, December 7, 2012. He was the loving husband of 23 years to Helene Keefner. Born, April 5, 1929 in Springfield, Illinois, he was the son of the late Hugo and Julia (Burns) Keefner. Joseph served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard as a First Lieutenant from 1952-1956. He retired from Westinghouse in Annapolis, Maryland where he worked as a technical writer. Joseph was known for being a humanitarian and talented pianist, also having interest in languages and intellectual studies, traveling and religion. He was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Karla Jo Aguzzi and husband Jeffrey; son, Paul Keefner and Stephanie; step-daughter Lynne Darby; step-son Thomas Schaefer and wife Ursula; sisters, Kathryn Torricelli and Mary Mulcahy; and grandchildren, Maxwell, Ian, Porter, Eric, Marshall, Carson, Andrew, and Kathryn. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Father James Keefner, Norman Keefner, Bill Keefner, and Paul Keefner. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, December 10, at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. Father Thomas Momberg, Rector of the church, will officiate. Inurnment will take place in the All Saints' Episcopal Church columbarium. Arrangements by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home.
