Lucy P. Smith

Lucy Mary Smith, 78, of Middletown, MD died on December 24, 2012. She was the wife of the late Charles Vernon Smith which past away in June of this year. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel L and Mary W Peters. She was born on February 19, 1934 in Floyd County Virginia. Her family moved to Lovettsville, Virginia in her early life. Lucy was a graduate of Lovettsville High School class of 1952. She continued her education at the Frederick Memorial Hospital Nurses School. Being a farmers wife, she stayed home to raise her family. In the mid 70's she returned to nursing. She retired after 20 years of service as Mid-night Shift Supervisor at the Citizens Nursing Home. Also during the seventies she was a member of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary. Lucy was also a honored member of the Middletown Lions Club where she held different Offices. Lucy enjoyed bowling, knitting, baking and cooking. She is survived by 4 children; Byron D Smith of King George ,VA ., Mark A (Tony) of Myersville, MD., Martin L. Smith and wife Teresa of Middletown and Kay L Smith and husband Donnie of Braddock Heights. Her 6 grand children; April, Coy, Elain, Ashley, Shelby, Haley, Chris and Megan as well as 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters; Tempest Reed of Richmond, VA., and June Virts of Lovettsville, VA and very special friend Pat Smith. Lucy is preceded in death by her siblings Frank, Nora, Gracie, Gladys, and Coy. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services are planned in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 AM. Rev. Stacey Brady & Rev. Dr. W. Philip Fogarty will officiate. The interment will follow at St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Petersville. Please view and sign the family guest book by going to www.keeneybasford.com.
