Mr. Daniel Edgar Thayer, 85, of Frederick, died on January 10, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary E. Cox Thayer, who preceded him in death in 2004. Born on May 14, 1927 in Adamstown, he was the son of the late Daniel D. Thayer and Mary E. Willard Thayer. Mr. Thayer graduated from Frederick High School, class of 1947. He and his wife were married on June 4, 1949 in Frederick and they were members of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick. Mr. Thayer was a "China" Marine, proudly having served as a PFC from 1944 to 1946 with the Fighting First, USMC. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps League. After his Marine Corps service, he worked for 35 years as a Central Office Repairman for the C & P Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a proud and dedicated 60 year member of Columbia Lodge #58 Ancient Free & Associated Masons, a Past Eminent Commander of Jacques DeMolay Commandry #4. In addition, he was a Member Enoch Chapter #23, Enoch Council #10, and was a Maryland State Commandry Line Officer, as well as a member of American Legion FSK Post #11. He is survived by his daughter, Jill E. Thayer Henry and her husband David, grandchildren Kelly, Thomas and Katie Henry, all of Lincroft, NJ, brother Carl R. Thayer and nieces and nephews Regina Fernandez, Mary Haugen, Rebecca Hankey, Kathy Nicholakos, Carl Thayer, Jr., and Stephen Thayer. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jack D. Thayer in 1983. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A Grand Commandry Grand Line Service will be performed at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 14 at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
