Bettie Louise Slaughter

Mrs. Bettie Louise Slaughter, 88, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, January 15th, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was born in Charles Town, West Virginia on March 24th the daughter of the late John Henry and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Myers Magaha and was the widow of Robert W. Slaughter Sr., who died on October 11, 1970. Mrs. Slaughter and her husband moved to Frederick in 1970. Bettie was employed by the Fredericktown Bank & Trust Co. in the Mortgage Dept. and prior to her retirement she had been employed by the PNC Bank as a receptionist, and to many of her co-workers was known as the "Cookie Lady". Bettie who always had a smile when she encountered her many friends had a great answer when asked how she was "WONDERFUL". Bettie was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Frederick, Chapter # 128 Order of Eastern Star of Charles Town, for 60 years and was a past matron, Francis Scott Key Post #11, American Legion Auxiliary and of the AARP. Surviving her is one daughter, Doris A. Keeney and husband, Robert W., of Frederick, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Adams, Rippon, West Virginia husband, Charles, one brother Newton Magaha, BelAir, wife (Helen,) daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kathleen K. Slaughter, Chicago, Ill., sister-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Magaha Ashley, Baltimore; Also surviving are two granddaughters, Mrs. Rebecca D. Forsythe and husband, Brian of Parkton, Md., Mrs. Amy M. Vinar and husband Christopher, Brunswick; three great-grandchildren, Miss Regan Grace Forsythe, Miss Payton Sophia Forsythe, Carter Anthony Vinar. She will be missed by very special friends and neighbor, Wanda and David Himes. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Slaughter of predeceased by one son, Robert W. Slaughter, Jr., brothers and sisters; Mrs. Eunice Wheeler, Mrs. Doris Withrow, Miss Mary Magaha, Mrs. Charlotte Kackley, Mr. Gerald Magaha Mr. Edward Magaha, Mr. M. Glenn Magaha, Mr. William Magaha, Mr. Francis "Mac" Magaha, Mrs. Kathleen Samsell. The family will receive friends at the Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street on Friday, January 18th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19th, at 11 a.m. from Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Dunnington and Rev. Harry Cole officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
