Mrs. Alicia Melendez Kunst, 81, of Frederick, died on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Glade Valley Nursing Center, Walkersville. She was the wife of Eugene F. Kunst, to whom she was married for 61 years. She was the daughter of the late Roberto Daniel and Margery Lucas Melendez. Mrs. Kunst was a homemaker, having raised 5 children. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Cecilia's Academy in Washington, D.C. Beginning in 1936, she and her family spent 7 years in Antwerp, Belgium until World War II forced their return to the United States. Mrs. Kunst was a parishioner of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister to residents of Citizen's and Montevue Nursing homes. She also was a member of the Carmelites at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Margie Williams and her husband Donald of Adamstown, Christine McKenna and her husband Jeff of Atlanta, GA, Terence Kunst of Charlotte, NC, Patti Unruh and her husband Brian of Arlington, VA and Mike Kunst and his wife Stephanie Hampton of North Potomac, MD as well as 14 Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Maria Deschenes and Robert D. Melendez. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, February 1, at 12:15 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 East Second Street, Frederick, Father Keith Boisvert officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St. Katharine Drexel Building Fund, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
