Mrs. Marie Madeline (Burkett) Miller, 92, of Jefferson, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at Kline Hospice House, Mt Airy, with her family at her bedside. She was the wife of the late Franklin Pierce Miller, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1980. Born on December 8, 1920, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry V. and Margaret E. (Bruchey) Burkett. Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Baptist Church in Frederick. She worked for Sagner Tailoring Co. for 28 years before retiring in 1974. Mrs. Miller was a loving, caring and giving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved Christmas and other holidays with her family. She loved to dance the jitterbug and Charleston with her daughters and friends. The slot machines and the holders at Charles Town were one of her favorites. She was also a member of the FSK American Legion Post #11, Moose Club #347, Owls Club, Amvets #2 & 7 and the Redmen Club. She enjoyed going on cruises and vacations with her wonderful late friend, "Shorty" Arthur Hawn. She is survived by her children, Patricia Marie Sweeney and husband Donnie of Thurmont, Charlie Long and partner Martha Lewis of Wolfsville and Beverly Marie Sanger and husband William Lee of Jefferson, grandchildren, Michelle Y. Grimes of Thurmont, Kevin Sweeney of Waynesboro, PA and William Lee Sanger, Jr. and wife Ashley of Emmitsburg, great-grandchildren, Victor Grimes and wife Christina of Hagerstown and Kristen Grimes and partner Travis Hahn of Thurmont, great-great grandchildren, Blake M. Weaver, Parker A. Grimes and Madison P. Grimes, sister, Anna Stine of Fl, special friends, Dolly Burch, Joyce and Buddy Burkett, Marylouise and Lee Martin, Winnie and Bubby Ward, Janet Dinkle and Marie Ritenour. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Smith, brother, Harry Vernon Burkett, Jr. and grandson, Preston Long, Jr. She will be greatly missed by family pets Evie, Emmi, Trixie and Bambi. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm, on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Larry Eubanks will officiate.
