Robert Leo Roberson

Mr. Robert Leo Roberson, 86, of Frederick, formerly of Dickerson, died on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Gay Moncier Roberson. Born Aug 16, 1926, in Dickerson, he was a son of the late Leo and Mary Elizabeth Hicks Roberson. He graduated from Poolesville High School in 1944, and entered the United States Army. He served in the European Theater with the 4th Infantry Division and was attached to General Patton's Third Army and participated throughout central Europe and the Rhineland, where his unit liberated the Dachau concentration camp. He received the Bronze Star medal for Heroism in battle, after carrying a wounded comrade out of direct enemy fire. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Roberson worked for the Government Printing Office, until his retirement in 1978. He was a lifelong member of the Dickerson United Methodist Church and the FSK Post 11, American Legion, Frederick. He was a 64 year mason and a member of the Fervency Lodge 200, AF&AM, Point of Rocks, where he was past Worshipful Master. Mr. Roberson served several terms as Grand Inspector of the Lodges of Maryland. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies as well as the Order of Eastern Star. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Betsy Roberson Care, and husband Don, of Oakland; grandsons, Christopher Allen Care, Oakland, and Jonathan Andrew Care, of Oakland, and his fiancé Beth Petrovich, of Hereford; one brother, John Kenneth Roberson and wife Rita, of Walkersville; two sisters-in-law, Helen Woodward Roberson, of Rockville; and Helen Crouse, of Kitzmiller; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Hicks Roberson, William Walker Roberson, and Douglas Lee Roberson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday, February 12 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, where Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 8pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 13 at the funeral home with his pastor, Rev. Patricia Abell, officiating. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donation to Dickerson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Dickerson, 20842 or to the Fervency Lodge #200, P.O. Box 131, Point of Rocks, MD 21777.
