Bonnie Smith

d. February 13, 2013

Ms. Bonnie Irene Smith, 57, of Frederick, was carried from the shore of this world on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. She was predeceased by her father Austin M. Smith on March 19, 1984. Bonnie was born in Frederick on a Wednesday April 20, 1955, a chilly spring day in America's classic era. A time when everything was right in America, a utopia with spirit, energy, optimism and limitless possibilities. Locally, it was the grand opening at what would be one of Bonnie's favorite places, the Tivollie. Surviving are a daughter, Tiffany Monnier and a son Roberto Moreno and daughter-in-law Shannon Moreno of Frederick. Seven grandchildren, Brittany Monnier, Brandon Monnier, Bonnie Monnier, Nadia Monnier, Leif Moreno, Ian Moreno, and Alyssa Moreno and one great-grandchild. Bonnie is survived by her mother Clara Irene Smith-Toney, step-father Harvey L. Toney, brother Robert Smith Sr. and one niece and nephew. As well as a host of cousins, family and friends. Bonnie was a dedicated school bus driver for over 30 years. In those years she brought happiness, security, and understanding to children and their families every school year. Bonnie was a mother, grandmother and gracious hostess. She possessed a passion for singing and dancing only surpassed by her enthusiasm for shopping. Bonnie loved her family and made every opportunity to bring them together. She loved to decorate at home and show off her skill of turning the most modest item into beautiful décor. In her retirement, she transferred the zeal and energy she used while driving the bus, into taking care of her family. Her favorite part-time job was to dote on her grandchildren. She always stowed away enough energy though to plan her next big cruise. Her dream of living on the tropical islands she loved and watching the dolphins jumping in the ocean, unrealized. Bonnie was an example of love in all its forms: kindness, compassion, acceptance, and generosity. Her warmth and serenity will forever be missed. Friends and family will be received from 5 pm to 8pm Tuesday, February 19 at Keeney Basford Funeral Home 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Maryland Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, February 20 at the funeral home. Pastor Ken Stalls will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bonnie's honor to the Heartly House, P.O. Box 857, Frederick, Maryland 21705.
