Reverend James Phillips Allen James P. Allen, 79 of Frederick, passed from home into the arms of the Lord, on March 5, 2013. Born February 24, 1934 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Wm. Walter and Florence Gertrude Allen. He was the husband of Marjorie Dunaway Allen for 31 years. Jim attended D.C. schools while active in S.E. Boys Club and DeMolay and was a 1952 graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville. He was a 1972 graduate of Benjamin Franklin University and a 1977 graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theology Seminary. After high school, he joined the Navy and saw the world for 22 years and retired a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He retired from South Mississippi Mental Health facility. Jim was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the American Legion. He was a Sunday school teacher at South End Baptist Church. Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are sons, Phillip Allen (Toni), Douglas Allen (Tamara), David Allen (Lt. Col Jan), and Paul Allen (Sarah); step-sons Malcolm (Janice) and Glenn Dunaway. He had 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sisters Florence Mazza and Bonnie Thompson (Richard) and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Charlene Dunaway, Judy Dunaway and former daughter-in-law Marlene Allen. He was preceded by brothers William, Walter and Harry Allen and sister Frances Hertsch and granddaughter Katherine Michelle Allen. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Friday March 8, at the South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, Maryland. The funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 9, at the church. The Reverend Kenneth Stalls will officiate. His Sunday School class, the Sojourners will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, Maryland 21701.
