Mr. William Sherwood Hildebrand, Jr., 72, of Frederick, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013. He was the husband of Cheryl C. Zentz Hildebrand, they were married for 52 years. Born in Rocky Springs on May 6, 1940, he was a son of the late William S., Sr., and Viola E. Hanshew Hildebrand. He at one time was a master butcher and had worked for several local shops in the area. He then owned and operated as Hildebrand Excavating, Wood Cutting and Hay Farming. He was also the caretaker and grave digger for the Rocky Springs Cemetery for over 50 years. He was very proud of all his tractor's and while in high school he participated in a tractor driving contest for the State of Maryland and placed second in backing up a hay wagon. He was a member of the Shookstown Civic Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Dooley A. Hildebrand, of Fairfield, PA and Bradford S. Hildebrand and fiancee Victoria, of Frederick, one brother, David Hildebrand and one sister, Patsy Blank, both of Frederick, grandchildren, Samantha Hildebrand, Billy Hildebrand and Hillary Hildebrand, great grandchildren, Ava, Lacey, Amir and Aaliyah, and two step grandchildren, Miranda and Thomas. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Zelda Zentz, and brothers and sister-in-laws, Albert Sauble and Ivy, Bob Zentz and Dottie, Robert Zimmerman, Carla Fitz, Arlyn Boone and Larry, Shelia Sciarra and John, Vickie Rossi and Steve and Meredith Beachley and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by special friends, Jimmy Shafer, Bob Zimmerman, Mary Blank and Allen Schaffer. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Fawley and Helen Beachley and brother's and sister-in-laws, Donna Zimmerman, Mike Zentz, Bill Fitz, Jack Fawley, Jim Blank and Ron Lamphar. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, care givers and staff of the College View Center for their care and support during his stay there. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, March 18, 2013, from the Edgewood Church of God, 8204 Edgewood Church Road, Frederick. Friends may also call one hour before to the service at the church. The Rev, Joseph Burdette, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs Cemetery.
