Mr. Irvin F. Stride, 97, of Frederick died April 4, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 2, 1915 in Frederick MD and was the son of the late Irvin G. and Grace E. Stottlemyer Stride. He was the loving husband of Eva M. Young Stride. Mr. Stride enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Sharon Stride Poole of Boonsboro, Marty Stride of Thurmont, Kenneth Stride of New York; step-daughter: Jean Boone of Libertytown; grandchildren: Donald Dick, Jeffrey Dick, John Stride; great-grandchildren: Jacob Dick and Elizabeth Dick; and five step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Eileen Stride Vetiello, and one step-grandchild as well as two brothers, Richard N. Stride and Robert M. Stride. Irvin proudly served his country during World War II in the 8th Air Force in England attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was employed at Fort Detrick from 1950 to 1972. During this time, he was also a flight instructor at the Frederick Airport for a number of years. He went to work for Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1975 retiring in 1990 at the age of 74. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederick. Mr. Stride's interests included hiking, trailer camping, nature, animals, the Amish, and building models (including a complete circus and carnival). The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, March 7 at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 8 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 703 West Patrick Street, Frederick. Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon immediately following the service at the church. Interment will follow the luncheon at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mount Airy.
