Ruth Elaine Summers

October 8, 1928 — April 6, 2013

Mrs. Ruth Elaine Summers, 84, of Frederick, died on Saturday, April 6 at Citizen's Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Roy E. Summers. Sr. Born on October 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Leo McKenzie and Margaret Baer McKenzie. Mrs. Summers was a seamstress, first working for Sagner and then later for H.L. Hart. She retired in the early 2000's and worked part time at Carmack Jays. Mrs. Summers was a member of the Frederick AMVETS. Ruth found pleasure in sewing, growing flowers, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and was extremely loved by all of her family. Ruth is survived by her chidren, Tommy Ridenour and wife Janie, Sandra Buchanan and husband Robert, Roy Summers and wife Sylvia, Earl Summers and wife April and step-daughter Janet Lupo. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Ricky, Jeff, Robby, Brent, Jerry Lee, Cassie, Ellie, Roy III, Brandon, Sara and Earl Jr., as well as a number of great-grandchildren and brothers Oliver McKenzie and Ernie Swanson and his wife Lena. Mrs. Summers is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandson Dennis, her brother Blaine and sister-in-law Bert. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 8 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home, Pastor Scott Clawson officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.
