Mr. Jon M. Maupin, 60 of Frederick, passed away suddenly while vacationing with family in Ocean City, Maryland, on Monday, May 6, 2013. Born June 14, 1952 he was the son of the late Hurl and Audrey Maupin. Jon attended Gov. Thomas Johnson High School and graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy. He was employed for 25 years with Winchester Hall, retiring in 1998. He was currently working for Federated Charities of Frederick, where he has worked for the past 20 years. John also enjoyed bartending part time at Wags, with his many friends, John Wagman, Joe Ellis, Karen Medley and Tom Bishop, where he was known to be "Quick with a joke or to light up your smoke!". Jon was a memember of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11. He loved music and the arts; he could quote you any line from any Shakespeare play, particularly his favorites, Romeo and Juliet or Gone With The Wind. His music would range from the Beatles to Bach and everything in between. Jon is survived by his beloved twin sister, Jeannie Surenko and husband Robert "Bob" of Frederick; siblings, Jay Maupin Sr. of Brunswick, Alecia Maupin of West Virginia, and Beverly Jackson of Frederick; nieces, Janet Stine and partner Larry Roberts, Khris Keepers and husband Louis; nephew, Jay Maupin Jr. and wife Shelly; great nieces, Taylor McConville, Makenzie Keepers, Savannah Maupin and Madelyn Maupin; and great nephew, Logan Keepers. Jon will also be remembered by special friends, Bev Sharrer, Vickie Coleman, Rich Strobel and Charlie Lennox and will be missed by his cat companions Bonnie, Roxie and Robear. The family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9 on Friday, May 10 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 11 at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Philip Fogarty will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
