Mrs. Regina JoAnn (Wiencek) Adkins, 78, of Frederick Maryland died Friday May 17th at the Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of the late William James Adkins Jr., of Baltimore Maryland, whom she married in 1953. JoAnn was born on September 11, 1934 in the small coal mining town of Windsor Heights, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Josef Wiencek and Katherine Krapka both who were immigrants from Poland. She was the youngest of nine sisters and was named after her father. Her sisters are Eleanor Deanie Kubat Merenoff, Jennie Kubat Roller, Katherine Alice Kubat Bonneville , Helen Kubat Stocia , Ida Kubat Myers, Mary Kubat Chincheck, Josephine Sue Wiencek Smith and Julie Ann Wiencek Waite. After graduating from Wellsburg High School in 1952, JoAnn moved to Washington DC to work for the FBI. While Washington DC, Joann meet Jim through a mutual friend while Jim was stationed at the US Naval Air Station in Chincoteague, Virginia. Jim and JoAnn married shortly after a St. Patrick's Church in Washington DC on November 7, 1953. After moving several times and finally settling down in Frederick, JoAnn returned to work with State Farm Insurance Company where she worked until retirement. Surviving JoAnn are all four of her children, William James Adkins III and wife Nancy Phebus, Gregory Paul Adkins and wife Kathy Bagley Reilly, Elizabeth Jean Adkins Huseman and husband Danny Huseman, Joseph Allan Adkins and wife Julie Clark. JoAnn was very proud of her five grandchildren William James Adkins IV, Roger Michael Phebus Adkins, Katherine Alexandra Huseman, Lucy Clark Adkins and Quynn Joseph Adkins. After the death of her husband in 2000, JoAnn took great solace in her children and grandchildren. The family will always remember her as a proud and private woman who took great care in the everyday things. Family get togethers would not be complete without her deviled eggs and when you were sick a pan of macaroni and cheese would be at your doorstep. If you had an important meeting or date, she would iron your outfit to meet her standards. If the outfit didn't match up, then there was nothing better than a shopping trip. After suffering a stroke at the end of 2012, JoAnn recovered and moved in with family. The months that she lived with family proved to be very enriching for all the kids and grand kids. She was constantly with family making and sharing memories. Her final fall was caused by a seizure while she was surrounded by family in the kitchen watching the joys of the grandchildren with a new puppy. Taking care of her family never left her thoughts even when we were taking care of her. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday May 21st at the Keeney Basford Funeral Home at 106 East Church Street Frederick, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM May 22nd at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
