Jesse David Myers, Jr., age 88 of Frederick, died on June 22, 2013 at Homewood at Crumland Farms following a prolonged illness. Born on September 6, 1924 in Westminster, MD, he was the son of the late Jesse and Elizabeth Myers and brother of the late Madeline Myers Hiatt. Jesse leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 61 years, Irma Irene Myers. Jesse graduated from Western Maryland College in 1949 with a degree in biology. He served briefly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, Jesse worked as a bacteriologist for the Maryland State Department of Health until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick, MD, where he enjoyed singing in the gospel choir for many years. He loved classical music, gardening, big breakfasts, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Jesse is survived by his daughter, Susan Myers Harbold and husband John of Westminster and son David Myers and wife Dawn of Shepherdstown, WV, grandchildren, Rebecca Jacques and husband Jovani, Laura DeStefano and husband Anthony, Jesse Myers and wife Diana, Michael Myers and wife Katy, William Harbold, Daniel Myers, Emilie Myers, and Bradley Myers, and nine great-grandchildren. He is additionally survived by his brother Howard Myers of Westminster. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Deer Park United Methodist Church, Westminster with Harry C. Cole officiating. The family will receive friends one hour preceding the service on Friday. The interment will follow in the Deer Park Cemetery immediately following the service.
