Miss Elizabeth R. Smith, 85, of Frederick, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Warm Heart Assisted Living, Frederick. Born on July 13, 1928, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Erma (Thomas) Smith. Miss Smith attended the Visitation Academy and graduated from Frederick High School. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and a volunteer at Citizens Nursing Home. She worked for the Federal Government at Fort Detrick and the National Bureau of Standards, where she retired from in 1984. She is survived by nephew, Michael Smith, niece, Melanie Baugher, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and friends at Warm Heart Assisted Living. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ross Smith, Sr. and wife Pauline and Thomas Smith and wife Betty. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30pm, on Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will follow at 2:30pm, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Dr. Michael O'Donnell will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
