Mr. Lancelot Daniel de la Cruz, 42, of Boonsboro, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 6, 2013, after a fierce 8 year battle with colon cancer. He was the husband of Brenda Jean (Wilt) de la Cruz for 6 years. Born on February 11, 1971, in Washington D.C., he was the son of Jesus de la Cruz and Argelia Sanchez Perez. Lance held a bachelor's in computer science from the University of Maryland. He joined the U.S. Army in 1990 and served most of his 11 year military career working at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. After he left the military he worked for MCI/Verizon Business until 2008 when he returned to Government service as a Cyber Security Engineer for the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by his two step-children Alexander and Allison Baughman, his sister Mercedes de la Cruz and husband Robert Lewis, sister Maria de la Cruz, brother Jesus de la Cruz, nephew Mitchel Rodriguez and niece Soraya Rodriguez. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7pm, on Thursday, August 8, 2013 and on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 116 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Father Kevin Farmer will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD 21701. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Lance's name to Dr. Armando Sardi from Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD primary fundraiser www.heat-it.org.
