Mrs. Carol A. Manley, 74, of Frederick, died on Monday, August 26, 2013, at her home. She was the loving wife of John L. "Skip" Manley, they were married in August of 1965. Born in Chicago, Ill., on December 2, 1938, and raised in Dubois, PA, she was a daughter of the late Willard Anderson and the late Marion Garvey Anderson Walton and her late adopted father, John Walton. She worked for the Sister's of St. Joseph in Erie, PA, for six years, she was in charge of the baby boys in Orphanage, where she helped with the boys and taught school . She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a graduate of Hood College with her degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught many years in Frederick County having been at Sabillasville, Green Valley, North Frederick and Parkway School. In 1994-1995 school year she was Frederick County Teacher of the year. She retired from the school system in 2001. After that she worked in the Candy Kitchen Store on North Market Street and had many friends Carol was a very active member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where she was the first female Eucharist minister and Lector, she taught in the Religious Education Program, Baptism Program, Marriage Prep., and RCIA ( Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). She was also a member of the Potomac Valley Bernese Mountain Dog Club, the Golden Retriever Club and the Catoctin Kennel Club. Surviving in addition to her husband are three children; John F. Manley and wife Betsy, of Frederick, Mary Jarvis and husband Darren, of Adamstown and Anne Manley and partner Meg, of St. Louis, MO, one brother, James Walton and wife Margie, of Duncansville, PA, one sister, Pat McMillen, of Streetsboro, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Maggie Manley, Rachel Jarvis and Pasha Manley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Jarvis. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 30, 2013, at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick. Msgr. James Hannon will be the celebrant and Father Stephen Gosnell, will con-celebrated the Mass. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Pallbearers will be; James Walton, Michael Walton, Robert Spearman, Edward Spearman, Brian Kidd and Matthew Kidd.
