With her grandsons, she rarely missed a single home or away football or lacrosse game. After her children were older, Phyllis got her teaching certification and perused her passion to become a teacher. She taught at West Frederick Middle School and loved every minute of it. Phyllis was a very active member of the Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Community, where she served the church in many ways and with many church committees. She was also very active in many communities activities in the Ijamsville Holly Hills area. Surviving along with her husband, are her two beloved sons, David "Chip" Carr and Randy Carr, both of Urbana, a daughter Carolyn and two wonderful grandsons, Jared Carr and Wyatt Carr. Also surviving are two wonderful cousins who were like sisters, Theresa Farmer and Sandy Newstead, both of Baltimore.
