Oscar Ulysses Fisher, Sr.

Mr. Oscar Ulysses Fisher, Sr., 82, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was the loving husband and best friend for 59 years to Alice Lorraine Poffinberger Fisher. Born in Frederick on September 15, 1930, he was a son of the late Oscar D. and Pearl E. Burkett Fisher. Oscar was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1948 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He was retired from the Federal Government where he was employed from 1954 to 1985. Oscar was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church where he willingly served as an usher until his illness, and was also a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11. He will be remembered as always having a smile on his face for everyone he met. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Oscar U. "Buster" Fisher, Jr., and wife Cheryl, of Baldwin, grandson, Jeremy W. Jeffers, of Thurmont, and his beloved granddaughter, Erin M. Fisher, of Sykesville, step granddaughters, Whitney Burkett and Alexandra Walker and husband Craig, and his former daughter-in-law, Terry McArthur and husband Roger, of Frederick, his siblings, Charles Fisher, Frances Scott and husband Russ, Frank Fisher and wife Marty, Donald Fisher and wife Ann, Robert Fisher and wife Janice and sisters-in-law, Eloise Grove, Joyce Hale, Jean Gilbert and husband Jim, brothers-in-law, Fred Wineke and Barry Poffinberger and wife JoAnn, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Wineke and Anna Mae Miller. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop and Dr. Michael O'Donnell, will officiate. Interment will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 or to a charity of ones choice.
