Jean Hare, a long time Hampden resident, died on September 6, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Frederick, Maryland, after a six year struggle with dementia. Born in Hampden on February 21, 1925, Jean was the daughter of the late Lawrence V. Hare, Sr. and Fern Alice (Greene) Hare. Jean attended #56 school and graduated from Western High School in 1943. She was employed by the A. S. Abell Company, as secretary to the Editorial Department at the Baltimore Sun Papers from 1963 until her retirement. Jean was a member of the Hampden/ Remington/ Woodberry Community Councils from 1971 to 1978. She was awarded an official citation by the Maryland House of Delegates in 1977 for her contributions in recording the history of the Hampden Woodberry Community and the Maryland Senate recognized Jean's publication of "Hampden Woodberry". In 1979, Jean participated in the Baltimore Neighborhood Heritage Project where she chronicled the life of her grandmother, Sally Cullum Green who was the daughter of a grist mill owner who lived in Medfield. Jean enjoyed traveling with friends in later years. In 2007, Jean and her cat Mario reluctantly left her family home on Falls Road and moved to Country Meadows Retirement Community in Frederick. In 2010, Jean moved to Golden Living Center, Frederick. She is survived by her niece, Lisa Hare Cutchin and husband Bill and family, of Frederick. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence V. Hare Jr. and niece Holly Wade Hare. A memorial service in celebration of Jean's life will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 3800 Roland Ave, Baltimore on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11 am. Pastor Bonnie McCubbin will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either the 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer's - Golden Living Center - Frederick's Walk - Susan Stoutamyer, or to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center - Pediatric Oncology.
