Mrs. Madeline Elizabeth Main, of Urbana, was born at the mountain home of her grandparents on Hall Bottom Road, in 1923. She passed at her home early on the morning of September 24, 2013, having recently celebrated her 90th birthday on July 29th. She was the first child of the late John Carl and Mary Alice Summers Gladhill and was the loving wife of the late Harry F. Main, Sr.. Together they farmed in the Urbana area for many years. Madeline was a great cook and baker. She enjoyed making all sorts of baked goods with her homemade bread being a family favorite. Over the years, besides working on the farm, she worked in the kitchen of both the Urbana Elementary School and Peter Pan Inn(now closed). She loved her church, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Urbana and was active for years in the Sunday School, the choir and the women's society. She was also a life member of the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was often found working in the kitchen of the fire house. Madeline is survived by her three children, Harry F. Main, Jr., and wife Margaret, Barbara E. Coffey and husband James and Bonnie C. Vanatta and husband Richard, all of Urbana. She was also a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Also surviving are siblings, Helen England, of Urbana, Betty Wright and husband John, of Frederick, Grace Flanigan and husband Richard, of Walkersville, Richard Gladhill, of Bartonsville, Donald Gladhill and wife Gloria, of Woodsboro, and sisters-in-law, Judy Gladhill, of Urbana and Kathleen Main, of Frederick, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Merle Gladhill and his wife Margaret, brother, John D. Gladhill, brother-in-law, Edwin H. England III,sister-in-law, Alfreda Gladhill, brother-in-law, Lloyd Main and sister-in-law Ruth Hawkins and husband Edwin. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 27, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Sandi Phillips, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Pallbearers will be; Tim Main, Rick Main, Michael Main, Tom Coffey, Rick Lenhart and Drew Lenhart.
