Mr. Gene Joseph Droneburg, 85, of Frederick, MD, died on Tuesday, October 15th, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Geraldine L. (Phelps) Droneburg. Born in Frederick on October 13, 1928, he was a son of the late Roger Truman and Eva Irene (Winpigler) Droneburg. Mr. Droneburg graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1946; and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and was discharged as a Corporal in 1953. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a lab technician with Eastalco Aluminum Company, and later worked for years with Weis Markets. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where he served as head usher for many years. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus; the Francis Scott Key Post 11, American Legion; and the United Fire Company #3, all of Frederick. He was also a member of the Amvets Post #2 and the Korean War Veterans, #142, both of Frederick. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Wanda J. Waterman and husband, Donald Sr.; Linda J. Droneburg, all of Frederick and Mark E. Droneburg and wife Sara, of Hagerstown; special granddaughter, Ashley M. Droneburg, granddaughter, Alissa R. Young; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Hildebrand and Donald Waterman, Jr; step great-granddaughter, Katy Schildtknecht ; his twin brother, Jack W. Droneburg and wife, Dorothy, of Frederick; a sister, Nancy Corun and husband Danny, of Hagerstown; sisters-in-law, Pat Cramer, Nancy Talley, Sandra Phelps; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angel H. Droneburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Friday, October 18 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, MD, at 10:00am on Saturday, October 19th. Interment will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland.
