Marjory G. Marvel Marjory G. Marvel, former Senior Program Specialist with the AARP Grief and Loss Programs, died Oct. 22 at Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown, MD. She was 93. Mrs. Marvel was a Senior Program Specialist with the AARP Grief and Loss Programs from 1985 until 2000, working with volunteers in the Widowed Persons Service and establishing the original Grandparent Information Center (now Grandfacts) with a grant from the Brookdale Foundation. Prior to that position, Mrs. Marvel was the co-founder and president of the National Coalition of Older Women's Issues and the Coordinator of Continuing Education Counseling at George Mason University. She has lived in the Washington, DC area since 1978. Marjory Gillingham was born in Melrose, MA. She attended Connecticut College for two years and graduated from Iowa State University in 1942. In 1975, Mrs. Marvel earned a M.Ed. in Adult Education from Temple University. In 1947, she married the late William W. Marvel, former president of Education and World Affairs in NY and the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. They resided in Princeton, NJ for over 20 years before moving to Philadelphia. Marjory was the beloved wife of the late William W. Marvel, loving mother of Nancy J. Marvel (David Birnbaum) of Piedmont, CA and Thomas E. Marvel of Montgomery Village, MD, devoted grandmother of Katharine and Emily Birnbaum, and cherished sister of the late John Gillingham. A memorial service will be held on November 30 at 2 p.m. at Buckingham's Choice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the BCRA Music Fund, 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown, MD 21710.
