Blanche Lorraine Shry Rice, 91, formerly of Frederick, died on October 30 at Charlotte's Home, Boonsboro. Born on February 4, 1922 in Gaithersburg, she was the daughter of the late Jesse J. Shry and Mary Rose Knott Shry. Mrs. Rice worked for many years as a telephone operator with Bechtel Corporation. She was a member of several Catholic Churches, most recently at St. Peter the Apostle in Libertytown. Blanche also was a parishioner at St. Michael's in Mount Airy, St. John's in Frederick and St. Joseph's in Adamstown. Blanche is survived by her sons Carroll L. Rice and his wife Shirley and Sherman M. Rice and his wife Dianne as well as grandchildren Ricky Rice and wife Sheri, Melonie Joy and husband David, Jason Rice and wife Nina, Vonnie Hildebrand and husband Steve, Rebecca Clipp and husband Justin and Robert A. Rice and wife Tiffany. Additionally, she is survived by great-grandchildren Tami, David, Danielle, Justin, Lexi, Davy, Dwayne, Brandyn, Wyatt, Ryan, Ellie, Ethan and Emma as well as a number of nieces and nephews including a very special niece Peggy. In addition to her parents, Ms. Rice was preceded in death by a son Michael L. Rice and and infant son, Kevin L. Rice, sister Mickey Page, brother Jack Slagle and former husband Lewis A. Rice. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3 from 7 to 9 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. They will also receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, November 4, also at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin following the morning visitation on Monday at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, Father Jason Worley officiating. Interment will be in Clustered Spires Cemetery, Frederick.
