Maria Elana Brust

August 11, 1945 — November 25, 2013

Mrs. Maria Elana Waskey Brust, 68, of Jefferson, died on Monday, November 25, 2013, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of Robert L. Brust. They were married in September 1963. Born in Lander on August 11, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Otis C. and Sophia Cross Waskey. Mrs. Brust was a homemaker for most of her life and had a great love for dogs and will be missed by her pet dog Jake. She was the granddaughter of the last lock tender on the C & O Canal at lock # 29. She was very active and played a large part in the restoration and saving the lock house. Surviving in addition to her husband is her daughter, Maria Leigh Isaacs and husband Aaron, of Damascus, one brother, Otis C. Waskey, Jr., and his wife Karen of Portsmouth, VA, two grandsons, Logan M. Howser and Brandon T. Isaacs. She will also be remembered by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Waskey and sister, Louise Hood Horman. She will also be sadly missed by many friends and neighbors, who gave her much love, support and wonderful care. Her wishes were for a private service, which her family is honoring. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Frederick Regional Cancer Center, Patient Assistance Care Program, 501 West Seventh Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
