Keith Robert Krause, Sr. Keith Robert Krause, Sr., 71, of Buckeystown, died on December 5, 2013, at home, after a three-year battle with brain cancer. He was the husband of Mary Sue Krause for 35 years. Born on June 12, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Fred and Beth (Deubig) Krause. In 1960, Keith came to Washington D.C. to attend Georgetown University, where he obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees from the School of Languages and Linguistics. After college he worked for Crowell-Collier Institute, which provided instruction in 40 different languages. He also taught Spanish and German at Montgomery College in Rockville. In 1975, Keith entered the field of advertising and, with a partner, started a direct-mail advertising company, Gift-Pak of America, Inc. He later formed Advertisers Co-Op, Inc., a small advertising agency. In 1978, he married Mary Sue, and they moved to Buckeystown in 1979. In 1994, Keith returned to the field of language education, teaching Spanish at Hood College before becoming a Spanish teacher at Linganore High School. He then went on to be the Department Chair of World Languages at Tuscarora High School, where he taught Spanish, German, and Latin before retiring in 2008. Keith loved the outdoors, especially gardening, fishing, and bird watching, and was devoted to his family. He was a loyal Redskins fan, attending home games for 43 years. He enjoyed cooking, and was also a homebrewer and one of the founding members of Frederick Original Ale Makers (FOAM). Noted for his sense of humor, sociability, and joie de vivre, he enjoyed sharing his homebrew and special sauerkraut with friends and family while holding court in the kitchen at his annual Oktoberfest celebration in Buckeystown. Keith loved to travel, especially to Spain. His lifelong love for the people and culture of Spain began in his youth as a student in Madrid. He later shared that enthusiasm with his students, working with teachers in Spain to organize an exchange program for high school students to travel to Spain and stay with host families, and for Spanish students to come and stay with host families in Frederick County. A firm believer in the educational value of international travel, he enjoyed leading groups of students to Spain every summer to immerse them in the history, art, architecture, and culture of Spain as well as the language. He later took groups of students to Germany and Italy when he was teaching German and Latin at THS.
