Mrs. Sara Jane Covell, 85, of Frederick, died on Friday, December 6, 2013, at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Covell, who died in 1998. Born in Frederick on March 10, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Katie Pauline Axline Newton. Mrs. Covell was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed helping many families with children. She was a member of the Araby United Methodist Church and a life member of the United Methodist Women. She loved to play bingo and had many friends over the years and was very active with Creekside at Tasker's Chance, until earlier this year. Surviving are her children, Cathryn C. Butler and husband Jay, of Herndon, VA, Alan J. Covell and wife Teresa, of Thurmont and E. David Scoggins and wife Sherry, of Myersville, one sister, Thelma Baker, of Annapolis, six grandchildren, Eloise Smith and Doug, Robert Williams and Kim, Charles Williams and Alex, David Covell, Bobby Swomley and Emily Scoggins, four great grandchildren, Erin, Abigail, Sam and Jack, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles C. Covell, two brothers and four sisters. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, December 13, 2013, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Elza Hurst, will officiate.
