Ralph Clayton Smith, 79 of Jefferson, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Carol Boyer Smith, his loving wife of 35 years. Born March 11, 1934 in Gapland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ralph B. Smith and Hattie C. Wise. Ralph was preceded in death by his six siblings, Elwood Eakle, Charles Eakle, Atlee Eakle, Hilda Dean, Geraldine Webber and Francis Foster. Ralph worked at MJ Grove in Frederick, later working at Todd Steele in Point of Rocks. He retired in March of 1996 from United Concrete of Frederick. He took pride in his yard and garden and loved to spend time traveling, fishing and with family and friends. In addition to his wife Carol, Ralph is survived by six sons, Michael Smith and wife Sherree, Ralph Smith and wife Donna, John Smith, Alan Smith, Kevin Smith and special friend Paula, and Brian Barron; two daughters, Susan Hoffman and husband Raymond, and Justine Smith and special friend Raymond Brooks; sister in law, Joyce Dailey; special friend Harry Michener; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special nephews, Donnie Webber and wife Mary, and Keith Dailey and wife Amanda; special niece Sylvia Bealer and husband Bobby; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; and his dedicated canine companion Muffy. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, at the funeral home. Reverend Darrell Layman will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
